Our Story
At Compassion Africa Initiative, we believe in the power of Kenyan youth to transform communities through environmental conservation and public health education. Our journey began at Mang'u High School in Juja, where we've pioneered school-based tree nurseries to address the urge for healthy diet and green cover in the environment.
Mang'u High School, located in Juja, a region with little natural shade, faced significant environmental challenges—scorching temperatures, minimal tree cover, and poor soil conditions that made traditional tree planting difficult. Recognizing the need for a sustainable solution, we saw an opportunity in fruit trees amongest other species we grow, which not only thrive better in such conditions but also provide shade, nutrition for healthier living, and a way to manage solid waste through composting. As we demonstrate success, other schools and community members took interest, leading us to formalize our efforts into Compassion Afrrica Initiative.
From this vision, we launched our flagship school-based tree nursery program, starting with Mang'u High School, where we trained two cohorts of students and planted over 1,000 trees in partnership with Equity Bank and the school community. Today, these young environmental stewards are spreading skills in seed reuse, waste management, and biodiversity conservation far beyond their classrooms.
Why Tree Planting Matter in our Counties.
Kenya's Vision 2030 calls for 10% forest cover—a goal we're tackling from the ground up. By teaching youth to:
- Repurpose fruit seeds into thriving trees
- Lead waste management initiatives
- Promote nutrition and healthy living
Every sapling planted is a step toward a greener, healthier Africa. But we can't do it alone. We collaborate with schools, businesses, and passionate individuals to scale our impact—because when young minds are equipped with knowledge and tools, they don't just dream of change. They grow it.
